Lothar Emmerich, a legendary figure in German football, passed away at the age of 61 on August 13, 2003. The former West Germany and Borussia Dortmund forward was known for his exceptional skills and determination on the field.

Born on November 29, 1941, Emmerich began his professional career at Borussia Dortmund in 1960. He quickly rose through the ranks and became one of the club's most prolific scorers. In his 11 seasons with Dortmund, he netted an astonishing 102 goals in 284 appearances.

Emmerich's performances at club level earned him a place in the West Germany national team. He made his debut for his country in 1966 and scored 12 goals in 18 appearances. He was part of the team that reached the final of the 1966 FIFA World Cup, where they lost to England in extra time.

After retiring from football in 1978, Emmerich remained involved in the sport as a coach and commentator. He will be remembered as one of the most iconic players in Borussia Dortmund's history and a respected figure in German football.
