Pensacola Revival: The End of an Era
The Brownsville Revival: A Personal Perspective
What Happened to the Pensacola Outpouring?
The Brownsville Revival, also known as the Pensacola Outpouring, was a widely reported Christian revival within the Pentecostal movement that began on Father's Day 1995 at the Brownsville Assembly of God in Pensacola, Florida. The revival was led by Pastor John Kilpatrick and was characterized by charismatic manifestations such as speaking in tongues, prophecy, and healings.
The Brownsville Revival lasted for five years, ending in 2000. There are many reasons why the revival ended, but some of the most common explanations include:
- Burnout: The revival was a very intense experience, and many of the people involved were exhausted by the end of the five years.
- Controversy: The revival was not without its share of controversy, and some of the things that happened during the revival were criticized by outsiders.
- Lack of leadership: Pastor Kilpatrick left the Brownsville Assembly of God in 2000, and the revival did not continue without him.
Despite the fact that the Brownsville Revival has ended, it continues to be a significant event in the history of the Pentecostal movement. The revival showed that despite our issues, God can use anyone, anywhere, anytime to change their world with the power of his Holy Spirit.
