The Rays tied the game in the fourth inning on a solo home run by Isaac Paredes.
The Red Sox regained the lead in the fifth inning on an RBI single by Alex Verdugo.
The Red Sox bullpen was excellent on Thursday night, allowing just one hit over the final four innings.
Garrett Whitlock pitched a scoreless eighth inning, and Matt Barnes earned the save with a scoreless ninth inning.
The Red Sox improved to 81-61 with the win, while the Rays dropped to 79-63.
The Red Sox will host the Rays again on Friday night at Fenway Park.
