Ohio State Quarterback Enters Transfer Portal

Former Buckeyes Starter Announces Decision to Explore Other Options

Kyle McCord, the former starting quarterback for the Ohio State Buckeyes, has entered the transfer portal, according to a statement released by the university on Monday. McCord, a redshirt sophomore, started the first three games of the 2022 season before losing his starting job to C.J. Stroud.

McCord's departure comes as no surprise, as he has been rumored to be considering a transfer for several months. With Stroud firmly entrenched as the starter and five-star recruit Brodie Sargent set to join the program in 2024, McCord's path to playing time was blocked.

McCord's transfer opens up the door for Devin Brown to take over as Stroud's backup. Brown, a redshirt freshman, played in four games last season and completed 10 of 14 passes for 102 yards and a touchdown.

It is unclear where McCord will transfer to, but he is likely to land at a Power Five program where he can compete for a starting job. McCord is a talented quarterback with a strong arm and good mobility. He has the potential to be a successful starter at the college level.
